This international airport, 3 hours from Korea by plane, is the main entry and departure point for all international flights. Arrival Procedures Inspection –> Baggage Claim –> Customs Inspection Upon arrival, proceed to the inspection area where you need to present your Passport, Visa, Incoming Passenger Card, and Customs documents. These documents will be returned to you after immigration processing. The inspectors at Tan Son Nhat are known to be very strict, so be sure to have all the necessary documents ready in hand. Also, make sure you write down the exact amount of money you are carrying with you on your Customs card. Once the inspection has been complete, proceed to baggage claim. Baggage Claim In case of lost or stolen luggage, report to the lost baggage counter, along with your passport, airline ticket, and luggage slips. Customs There are two Customs documents that you need to fill out; white and yellow. The white document is to be presented upon arrival at Customs. The yellow is to be presented upon departure. In the case of a delayed or cancelled flight, go directly to the Asiana Airlines counter, located at the D Lounge, to get another flight. You’ll receive a boarding pass at the check in counter. Check in your bags and make sure you receive a claim slip. Customs Most Customs inspections are done through the X-ray machine. However, the inspectors do open your luggage at times, so always be prepared. Present the completed yellow Customs document that you received upon arrival. Keep all your currency exchange receipts for record. Import and export of Vietnamese currency and animals are prohibited. Final Inspection Present your passport and boarding pass to receive a stamp of approval. Boarding Last minute shoppers can make purchases in the lobby while waiting to board. Once your boarding announcement is made, put your carry-on bags through the X-ray machine, then get on the airport shuttle to your respective airplanes for boarding. Domestic Flights Due to the long distance between cities, it’s best to use domestic flights to Hanoi, Hue, Nha Trang, and Dalat. The domestic terminals are located left of the international terminals. After checking in, you need to head to passport inspection and pay the airport tax. Airport Tax The airport tax on departure for international flights is US$10 and 20,000d for domestic flights.
Tan Son Nhat International Airport is located 7km from downtown Ho Chi Minh City. By tax, it takes approximately 20 minutes. There are 2 taxi services available; airport & public taxis. The fare for public taxis run between US$5 ~ $7. The fare for airport taxis run a bit higher. Honda Om is a motorbike taxi. It’s cheaper than a taxi, but it?s not a very safe form of transportation and should be ridden with caution. The fare runs 50,000d to downtown Ho Chi Minh City and 30,000d to Koreatown.
